  • Denim upcycling

    Denim upcycling

    Denim is fashionable, strong and versatile, and so much fun to work with! 

    Make yourself a unique bag, skirt or apron while learning techniques for working with and finishing denim.

    Prior sewing experience is needed for this class. A selection of patterns will be available, but participants can discuss alternate project ideas prior to or during the first class.

    We have a huge stack of denim available for participants in this class. Students will need to procure notions depending on selected project.

  • Machine tool use and safety

    Machine tool use and safety

    Learn safe use of machine tools while making a desk caddy. Learn correct set up and use the band saw, miter saw, drill press and sander

    Participants aged 12-14 must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult

    Safety glasses are provided. It is mandatory to wear safety glasses, tie back long hair, wear closed shoes and remove ties, lanyards and jewelry while working in the woodshop.

  • Introduction to soldering electronics

    Introduction to soldering electronics

    This workshop focuses on hands-on time with many of the situations required by electronic projects including wiring, connectors, printed circuits boards, breadboards, components, microcontrollers, modules, LED's and more.
    You will gain familiarity with precision soldering irons and the more powerful soldering guns and learn to choose which of them is appropriate

    We will have a review of common faults and how to avoid them. A presentation of safety and environmental considerations is included.

    Students will take home a microcontroller board (ESP32C3) to continue their electronics journey!

    Prerequisites: You should have some basic knowledge of electricity to get the most from this workshop

    Machine sewing basics (Kids and teens, 8 classes)

    Sewing is a fun and useful skill that kids and teens can learn too!

    This class is for kids and teens aged 9-15

    Learn how to make a shorts with pockets and a tote bag using a sewing machine in this 8-week course.

    Class 1: Introduction to the sewing machine. Learn how to thread the machine, how to set up the machine to sew straight and zig-zag stitches, and how to control the machine going straight, and making curves and sharp corners.

    Class 2: Learn how to cut fabric using sewing scissors and a pattern

    Classes 3-5: Complete your first project – shorts with pockets. Learn how to sew and finish seams, measure and sew hems and create an elastic waistband.

    Classes 6-8: Complete your second project – a denim tote bag

    This class is for kids and teens aged 9-15

    Learn how to make a shorts (with pockets!!!) using a sewing machine in this 5-week course.

    Class 1: Introduction to the sewing machine. Learn how to thread the machine, how to set up the machine to sew straight and zig-zag stitches, and how to control the machine going straight, and making curves and sharp corners.

    Class 2: Learn how to cut fabric using sewing scissors and a pattern

    Classes 3-5: Complete your first project. Learn how to sew and finish seams, measure and sew hems and create an elastic waistband.

  • Intermediate artisanal soap making

    Intermediate artisanal soap making

    Prerequisite: participation in the Introductory soap making workshop

    This 2-hour workshop aims to provide you with additional techniques and learn new skills and soap making concepts and a handout with information and new recipes (and, of course, SOAP!).

    This workshop is recommended for people aged 16 and over, because of the handling of sodium hydroxide (lye).

    In this workshop, we will focus on 3 different intermediate techniques. You will learn new concepts such as calculating the volume to make the correct amount of soap, techniques for making sea salt bars, and how temperatures may affect the soap making. Working with the other students, you will each make different soaps that will be shared so that everyone will have a few bars of each kind made.

    You'll leave with a document containing the steps to follow and the recipes used during the workshop, as well as the intermediate topics discussed during the workshop.

    For the soap-making workshop, you'll need to wear a long-sleeved shirt, and we'll provide goggles, gloves and everything else!

    Soap making

    Workshop: Introduction to cold process artisanal soap making

    This 2-hour workshop aims to teach you how to make artisanal soap by cold saponification, using rigorous information in a fun and accessible context. This workshop is recommended for people aged 16 and over, because of the handling of sodium hydroxide (lye).

    In this workshop, you'll learn how to make artisanal soaps, understand the ingredients and components of soaps, and master the safety concepts involved in handling sodium hydroxide. You'll be able to choose the colour and scent of your soaps to personalize to your taste and make 10 x 120g soaps (a retail value of $90). 

    You'll leave with a document containing the steps to follow and the recipe used during the workshop, as well as some resources for formulation calculators and resources for buying the materials needed to make soap.

    For the soap-making workshop, you'll need to wear a long-sleeved shirt, and we'll provide goggles, gloves and everything else!

    Repairs are free, donations are welcome!!!

    Events are once a month on Sundays, from 1:00-4:00PM

  • Print and Cut with Cricut

    Print and Cut with Cricut

    Personalize your shirt, bag or water bottle with your favorite photo or drawing.

    The print and cut feature allows you to create full color stickers and heat transfers on an inkjet printer then precisely cut them with a Cricut cutter.

  • Introduction to the Cricut cutter

    Introduction to the Cricut cutter

    Learn to use Cricut Design Space and the Cricut cutter to make a heat transfer or adhesive decal. Students will also learn how to apply their decals to a shirt, mug or other item.
