    Intro to Quilting: Perfectly Imperfect

Learn the basics of making a patchwork and assembling a quilt in this two part workshop with Ian Capstick (https://www.instagram.com/quiltqueerly/)

Quilting has a reputation for fussiness: perfect points, matched seams, corners that meet exactly. Ian teaches it the other way round. In improvisational quilting you work without a strict pattern and your seams and points might not be perfect and that’s what makes it uniquely yours.

    Class 1 – Patchwork

    • Colour theory and choosing your fabric
    • Cutting squares and strips
    • Working with 1/4" seams
    • Three blocks: Rail Fence, Nine-Patch, and a Wonky Sawtooth
    • Pressing and squaring up

    Class 2 – Quilting

    • Sashing and borders
    • Sandwiching the layers
    • Basting
    • Machine quilting
    • Binding demonstration and practice

Participants may not finish completely in the workshop. We’ll provide examples and instructions on how to turn your blocks into: a tote bag or back patch for a jean jacket, a pillow or even the start of a much larger quilt!
